People _do_ practices. Often people form identities around practices. The deeper part of “turning pro” is having a practice. (Pressfield) #### Why is it important to practice? Practice so you can play. (lesson learned through relating to Robin Eubanks) #### Does it give me energy to think of myself primarily as a practitioner? I like the idea of being a practitioner. Maybe it's nice to think of practice as the value, not even the specific practice... So earlier when I said, people form identities around practices, I was thinking martial artist, trombone player... There's a more general category, tho, of practitioner. That's kind of interesting. I am interested in doing that experiment, What if I think of myself primarily as a practitioner? #### What are people practicing for? I think the Tibetan Tantra dudes are practicing for the moment of death. There's the bodhisattva ideal of practicing for the benefit of all sentient beings. In competitive sports, practice is preparation for a moment of competitive test. This goes to the question of finite and infinite games. What kind of game are you practicing for? If it's a finite game, then the game itself is what counts. With infinite games, there's a chance that the practice is itself the game, and you're goal is to keep playing, keep practicing.
